Level 1 complex operations
BVLOS- In-person training (minimum 20 h) at a school registered with Transport Canada
- Two theory exams passed
- Beyond visual line-of-sight simulation
- PCS use only
- DAA system or visual observer (VO)
- 60-second emergency landing
Roles and responsibilities
The evaluator
Evaluator (not VO)- Validates your identity
- Observes and assesses only
- Cannot teach during the flight
- Intervenes only for safety
- Enters results in the portal
The candidate (you)
Pilot in command- Responsible for flight safety
- Flies autonomously
- Makes all decisions
- Manages communications
- Responsible for the RPA
Important: The evaluator cannot act as visual observer (VO). For level 1 complex operations, you must provide your own prepared visual observer (VO) in advance.
